The Overwatch World Cup is gearing up, with the committees being revealed and roster announcements happening very soon, and now the Team USA coach Aaron 'Aero' Atkins TwitLonger has spoken about their own team, and tryouts happening now.
"In order to build a process you need a plan and in order to make a plan you need a goal. Getting straight to the point, our goal is to represent our country honorably and, ultimately, take home the gold. While there are multiple ways to build a team, we felt that our best homegrown options are within the highest levels of competition available in Overwatch: the Overwatch League and Overwatch Contenders."
25 players will be invited for tryouts, with the invited players split into four teams, then facing off in private scrimmages over two weeks following the conclusion of Overwatch League Season 1. Three of the four teams will advance to week two after the first week, with candidates then being whittled down to the final 12 being chosen for the national team. They'll be assessed on everything from attitude to communication and mechanical skill, being given time to prepare strategies before each match, having direct coach intervention in week two.
Can they produce a stellar squad like this?
