There were lots of major esports event taking place during this year's Gamescom in Cologne and one such tournament was the inaugural Gwent Open. With a prize pool of $25,000, it signals a healthy start to the competitive scene of a game that has yet to officially launch.

In a bit of a Cinderella story, the tournament's wild card qualifier (the other 7 were determined via rankings) Elias "Shaggy" Sagmeister took the honours in the finals on Saturday. "Shaggy" won the finals with a clean sweep of 3-0. Both finalists are qualified for the Gwent Challenger Tournament set to take place in December.
