Call of Duty World Championships 2017 - Day Four round-up

12 teams left, by the end of the day there will just be four. Who comes out on top?

HQ

It's Saturday. This is when the going gets good; 12 teams remain, and plenty will be eliminated today. Kicking off the action today was EnVyUs vs Ghost Gaming, two teams that have proved themselves worthy contenders over the past few days of action. Ghost have defied expectations again and again, but EnVyUs proved to simply be too strong for them on day four of the event, knocking them down to the losers bracket 3-0.

eUnited vs Allegiance was the other game taking place early on, and was a somewhat closer affair. eUnited took the 2-0 lead with comfortable victories in both of the first two maps, but Allegiance came back in the Uplink to push a game four. They couldn't continue the momentum though, as eUnited came flying out of the gates and won 250-55 - nearly a 200 point gap.

Next up was the big dogs. Number one EU in Splyce versus number one NA in OpTic. Chants of "Let's go OpTic!" echoed around the arena, but after OpTic took the first map, Splyce continued their undefeated Search & Destroy record by taking the second map along with the Uplink, but then fell during game four Hardpoint. It all boiled down to the final Search & Destroy, and as they say, S&D wins championships. Splyce couldn't maintain their flawless record though and fell 6-4 in the final map, sending them down to the losers bracket to play against Epsilon. We spoke with Formal following their victory, and you can catch the interview below.

On the Bravo stage, FaZe faced off against Infused. FaZe were clear favourites but Infused impressed yesterday by knocking Rise into the losers bracket so it was anyone's game. Unfortunately for the Brits, FaZe were on top of their game and came out hot, winning 3-0. Infused were knocked down to face Luminosity Gaming, while FaZe will face OpTic next in one of the greatest Call of Duty rivalries. Gunless is the remaining FaZe member we hadn't spoken to yet, so we had a chat with him after their victory against Infused.

Ghost Gaming played Enigma6 next and sent them packing with a 3-1 scoreline, while Rise Nation did the same to Allegiance, meaning Ghost vs Rise is the fixture for losers round three. On the other half of the bracket are three British teams in Infused, Splyce and Epsilon, and Infused unfortunately got knocked out by Luminosity 3-1, while Splyce vs Epsilon went to a game five round 11, but Splyce took it in the end.

Rise Nation vs Ghost Gaming were up again, for Ghost's third game of the day. The fatigue started to get to them though, as they were unable to overturn Rise and fell 3-1. Splyce faced off against Luminosity in their third game of the day too, and after two close 3-2 encounters, they simply couldn't muster the performance to overturn Luminosity and lost 3-0.

In one of Call of Duty's most established rivalries, OpTic Gaming faced FaZe Clan in the winners bracket. OpTic came through far quicker than FaZe though, despite having such a close call with Splyce in the previous round, and FaZe just couldn't match their tempo, losing 3-0 and falling down to the losers bracket to play Rise Nation.

In the other winners bracket semi final, EnVyUs played eUnited and it was impossible to call going into it. nV dispatched of Ghost and Epsilon to make it there, while eU fended off Luminosity and Allegiance. nV showed that they're still a force to be reckoned with though as they beat eUnited comfortably 3-1.

Those losses clearly knocked both FaZe and eUnited's confidence, as they played Rise and Luminosity respectively in the losers bracket and while FaZe managed to win two maps, eUnited got steamrolled and lost 3-0.

That rounded off Saturday's action, leaving Sunday to kick off with Rise Nation vs Luminosity Gaming in the losers bracket, and OpTic Gaming vs EnVyUs in the winners bracket. Who will take the whole event? Let us know in the comments.
