Call of Duty World Championships 2017 - Day Two round-up

Pool play has finished - 16 teams are through, 16 are gone. Read up on the day's events and catch all our interviews here.

We're up bright and early in Orlando for the second day of the Call of Duty World Championships 2017. Pool play continues and 16 of the 32 teams will be completely eliminated come the evening. Read on for a recount of the games as they happened in chronological order.

The first big game of the day took place between Fnatic and Evil Geniuses. With EG facing the jaws of elimination if they lose, since they also lost 3-0 to Str8 Rippin, their championship dreams were on the line. Unfortunately, Fnatic were just too strong for the prestigious organisation and they bowed out at the first opportunity. We talked to both Tommey from Fnatic and Parasite from Evil Geniuses following the game, and you can catch both interviews below.

In the same group, Str8 Rippin also played against Tainted Minds and continued their domination from yesterday by brushing them aside 3-0. The 10am matches also consisted of Group E's second matches, with FaZe seeing off eRa Eternity 3-0 and Team Allegiance beating Red Reserve 3-1.

Group G followed up, with the all European match between Splyce and Millenium. Millenium needed a win to stay in the tournament but Jurd and co were utterly ruthless, dispatching of their European counterparts 3-0. In the same group, newly formed Ghost Gaming continued their impressive form and beat Team Kaliber 3-1, securing their place in the knockout rounds.

Cloud9 reached a solid 6-1 overall record with their 3-0 demolition of MRN Black in Group H, while Enigma 6 did exactly the same by defeating Rogue 3-1. After the Cloud9 match, we spoke with team captain Aches who explained to us that he doesn't think OpTic have it in them this year. Catch the full interview below.

Fan favourites OpTic Gaming played their final game of pool play next, and surprisingly dropped a map to Echo Fox. Epsilon on the other hand bounced straight back from their previous defeat and beat 3sUP 3-0, securing their spot in the bracket as the second seed from Group A.

EnVyUs gave Projekt Evil their first 3-0 walloping of the event, matching OpTic's overall record with a 9-1 map count. The other game in Group B saw Mindfreak.Black take the win over Elevate EU 3-1, securing their spot in the knockout stages with a 7-6 map count overall.

Group C consisted of eUnited taking on Infused, and giving them a swift 3-0. Lethal Gaming played Mindfreak and won 3-1, which led to a three way tie; Infused, Lethal and Mindfreak are all 1-2, with a 4-7 map count. A round robin 'one and done' takes place later in the day to determine who gets the second spot.

Luminosity Gaming showed that their defeat against Rise Nation was an anomaly by taking out Team Vitality 3-1, while Rise continued to dominate, only dropping one map all through pool play by sending Supremacy home 3-0.

Group E concluded next, with Red Reserve managing to beat FaZe 3-2, but it wasn't quite enough. To go through in the second spot they had to win 3-1, due to Allegiance's disposition of eRa Eternity 3-1. We spoke to both Enable and Attach following their loss to Red Reserve; catch the interview below.

Fnatic saw off Str8 Rippin to secure their spot at the top of Group F, while Evil Geniuses and Tainted Minds played their consolation game to see who finishes third. It looked like the heads of Parasite and co were already elsewhere, as they fell 3-2 to the Australians.

Ghost Gaming continued their ridiculous form, seeing off the top EU team Splyce 3-1. Both teams still progress through, but Ghost have nabbed the number one seed. In the consolation game for the group, Millenium defeated Team Kaliber 3-1.

Group H were the final group to conclude their games, with Enigma6 taking on Cloud9 and emerging victorious 3-1. The other match saw Rogue take out MRN Black 3-1, although both teams have been knocked out.

The very end of the day came down to the three way tie breaker between Infused, Mindfreak and Lethal. Infused saw off Lethal 6-1 in the first Search & Destroy, then took out Mindfreak 6-4, securing their spot as the fourth and final European team to make it to the knockout stages.

The main doors open tomorrow to the fans, so expect much more coverage from us here at Gamereactor. You can also add our Snapchat account @GamereactorTV to check out our story from the event.
